When it's time to replace

Gutters don't last forever. Most aluminum seamless systems in Reno last 20-30 years; older sectional systems typically need replacement at 10-15 years. Signs you're due:

Visible sagging between hangers, separated or leaking joints, pinhole rust on steel gutters, peeling paint or fading finish, rust streaks on fascia or siding, water intrusion near foundation during rain, gutters pulling away from the house, and downspouts separated from the building.

If you see two or more of these, replacement is usually the right call. Repair is often throwing money at an aging system.

The replacement day

A typical Reno residential gutter replacement takes one full day:

Morning: removal. The crew removes old gutters and downspouts, hauls them to the truck for disposal. If fascia damage is found, we stop and walk it with you before proceeding.

Midday: forming and installation. The gutter machine forms new seamless runs to your measured lengths. Hidden hangers go in, then the new gutters set in place with proper pitch.

Afternoon: downspouts and testing. New downspouts installed, routed to splash blocks or drain tie-ins. Every downspout water-tested with a hose before the crew leaves.

End of day: walk-through. You walk the perimeter with the crew lead, confirm everything is right, and we hand you the keys. Payment on satisfaction.

Choosing replacement material

Most replacements in the Reno area go aluminum-to-aluminum — the material's proven over decades and offers the best price/performance. Exceptions:

Upgrade to copper — on architecturally significant homes, or if you're planning to stay long-term and want curb appeal.

Downgrade from copper to aluminum — rarely advisable unless copper is truly failing.

Steel to aluminum — almost always the right move. Galvanized steel gutters that rusted out get replaced with aluminum that won't.

Color considerations

Gutter Brothers stocks coil in 20+ factory-baked enamel colors. Popular Reno choices:

White (default, highest volume) — works on almost any exterior.

Almond/Sandtone/Terratone — matches common tan/stucco palettes in Somersett, D'Andrea, Wingfield Springs.

Dark Bronze — increasingly popular on newer South Reno custom homes.

Black — matches modern farmhouse architecture trend.

Copper Penny (aluminum colored to look like copper) — achievable at 1/3 the cost of real copper.

Warranty and what to expect after

Gutter Brothers backs every residential replacement with a written workmanship warranty. If something leaks due to how we installed it, we come back and fix it — period. Material warranties on factory-finished aluminum are typically 20+ years from the mill.

Typical maintenance going forward: annual cleaning (or every 6 months if you're under mature trees), visual inspection for sag or fastener issues once a year.
