Aluminum vs. Copper Gutters in Reno, NV — Which Is Right for You?

The two most popular premium gutter materials in northern Nevada are aluminum seamless and copper. They're both excellent — but they serve different budgets, aesthetics, and priorities. Here's a frank comparison from a contractor who installs both.

The Case for Aluminum

Aluminum seamless gutters are the right choice for probably 85% of Reno homes. They're durable, low-maintenance, available in dozens of colors to match any trim, and the cost is straightforward. A 180 LF aluminum installation runs $1,600–$2,800 — very manageable even for a modest home.

The key is insisting on seamless (not sectional) aluminum. Seamless gutters formed on-site eliminate the seam leaks that plague big-box store sectional gutters within a few years.

The Case for Copper

Copper gutters are a legitimate lifetime investment for Reno homeowners who plan to stay put. While they cost 3–4x more upfront, they will outlast the roof, the fascia, and possibly the siding they're attached to. Many Reno homeowners in Caughlin Ranch, Somersett, and Old Southwest choose copper specifically because they never want to deal with gutters again.

Copper also develops a natural brown patina that is genuinely beautiful — especially on craftsman, Victorian, and Spanish-colonial style homes. There's no paint to chip, no coating to fail.

What About "Copper-Look" Aluminum?

Some manufacturers offer aluminum gutters with a copper-colored finish. Honestly, they look fine at first but don't age the same way real copper does — and they don't carry the same longevity premium. If you want the look and you're on a budget, they're an option. If you want actual copper performance, get actual copper.

Our Recommendation

If you're replacing gutters on a house you bought 5 years ago and plan to sell in 10, aluminum seamless is the smart call. If you're doing a major renovation on your forever home, or if you have a historic property where the aesthetics really matter, copper pays for itself in both longevity and curb appeal.

We install both — and we'll tell you honestly which makes more sense for your specific situation. Get a free estimate or call (775) 502-1844.
